WWT makes first purchase in Spokane BasinIn January of 2015, Washington Water Trust made its first purchase of water in the Spokane Basin. The permanent purchase of a groundwater right that was previously used for gravel mining in the Spokane Valley will be used to mitigate for future groundwater uses in the Spokane Basin.

The water right purchase coincided with the signing of the Spokane Water Management Rule which sets instream flows in the Spokane River and requires new groundwater uses to be mitigated. This mitigation purchase will ensure that new groundwater uses have no negative impact on the flows of the Spokane River.
